Jazz On The Meadow
More great acts added
Jazz on the Meadow is the Isle of Wights showcase jazz event.
This year’s Jazz on the Meadow two-day concert at Ventnor Botanic Garden is shaping up to be a fantastic day of exciting and innovative music.
With headliners already confirmed as vocal virtuoso Claire Martin and acid jazz maestros James Taylor Quartet on Saturday 21st and world-renowned scratch disc jockey DJ Yoda performing a very special swing set on Sunday 22nd, organisers Blunt Rocks are filling the bill for both days with exceptional ground-breaking talent.
Joining the bill on Sunday 22nd will be Island-based band The Shutes. Recently returned from a European tour, The Shutes have a new album on the brink of release. The NME described them as ‘the most far-out joyride to have left IoW since … Hendrix’s trailer pulled out’, and they will be bringing a jazz-influenced set to the Meadow for one time only.
More great music will be provided by Born in a Barn, performing a specially designed set of fun-filled reggae/jazz grooves. Always certain to get your feet tapping, Born in a Barn will add to the ‘twist on jazz’ theme of Jazz on the Meadow Sunday.
Also performing on Sunday will be up-and-coming American songstress Keri Highland, whose performance at last year’s Jazz on the Meadow was her first on the Isle of Wight. Viewed by many as an early highlight of the day last year, Keri Highland will also be subscribing to the jazz twist theme with an entirely new set drawing on her experiences since moving to the Island just over a year ago.
Sunday’s twist on jazz theme will be brought home by your hosts for the day The Pink Pussycat, whose funky beats and cool rhythms will take you through the day on a journey from planet funk all the way to DJ Yoda’s climactic and highly-anticipated performance.
Meanwhile, Saturday’s lineup topped by Claire Martin and James Taylor Quartet continues to grow, with The Ric Harris Blues Syndicate performing their sublime gumbo of reggae and blues, tinged with an underlying latin groove. Ric’s career has taken him from recording music for TV shows to playing with artists such as Bobby Womack and The Tribesmen.
With many more acts still to be announced, this year’s Jazz on the Meadow is set to be the must-see music event of the year for genuine music lovers.
