Musicport Scarborough Fair Festival of Folk - Sunday 14th August
On Sunday 14th August the Scarborough Fair will present the Festival of Folk, and will bring some of the hottest faces of folk music to Scarborough for an afternoon and evening of pure enjoyment. Headlining the festival will be 5-times winners of BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 'BEST LIVE GROUP', Bellowhead, as well as performances from multi-instrumentalist, arranger and producer Jim Moray, English folk powerhouse and winners of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for “BEST LIVE BAND’- The Demon Barbers.
The event will also feature performances from the groundbreaking Scottish mavericks Shooglenifty, a performance of a collection of traditional songs from Martin Carthy & Dave Swarbrick. Opening up the bill will be two excellent local acts, Anna Shannon who since being awarded BBC Radio “Yorkshire Songwriter of the Year” in August 2006 has forged a steady path into the folk singer songwriter scene, appearing at numerous venues and festivals including Whitby, Fylde Wimbourne, and more.
The Duncan McFarlane Band will also be opening up the show and proudly proclaim on the back cover of their second album, All Rogues & Villains, “We class our music as Folk-Rock”. The unreconstructed six-piece from Yorkshire make no bones about or excuses for their desire to produce memorable, attractive and danceable folk-fuelled rock that offers a knowing nod to the 70s masters.
The weekend promises to be a fantastic day for all the family and we look forward to seeing you all there.
