The Various Cruelties formed in September 2010 and were named after an Ed Ruscha painting of the same name who the Talking heads famously used for the “Sand in the Vaseline” compilation.
Pretty much the first gig they got offered was one supporting The Vaccines. They had met through a friends of friends and within a few weeks recorded the tracks heard on bandcamp prior to playing live.
Influences include, Etta James, Spencer Davis Group, Arcade Fire and Villagers.
